The Monarchs original name is Emperor.
The Monarchs are a series of Monsters that activate destructive effects when they are tribute summoned.
When they first appeared in the Anime, each of them had their own deck, but not much cards were revealed at that time.
Over time they still received more support cards.
Sawatari Shingo uses Monarchs in the Arc-V manga and 2 new cards were already revealed, so the development of the Monarchs has not stopped yet.
Each of the original 6 Monarchs has a Mega Form and a Vassal (the Monarch's Servant).
They also appear in the Artwork of various spell and trap cards that support tribute summoned monsters at the cost/condition of having an empty extra deck.
Water:
Mobius can destroy up to 2 spell/trap cards which can also be used to destroy the pendulum scales.
It's Mega Form (The Frigid Ice Emperor) can destroy up to 3 cards and also prevents your opponent from activating those cards in response if it was summoned by tributing a water monster.
Escher can be special summoned when your opponent has 2 or more cards in their spell/trap zones.
The Monarchs Awaken can protect your Monarchs from all card effects for the cost of negating their effects. But since the Monarchs effects only activate once, this is no drawback.
Also note that this card is not a continuous trap, so it will not stay on the field and the protection effect can only be removed by flipping the Monarch face.down or returning it to the hand, which will not be possible, because it is unaffected by all card effects.
Destruction by battle is the only way to defeat a Monarch that was targeted by this card.
Earth:
Granmarg destroys 1 set card on the field, this effect is not optional. Granmarg was always considered the weakest Monarch, because Mobius can destroy more than 1 spell/trap card and Zaborg can also destroy face-up monsters, not only face-down ones. Therefore Granmarg's support has received effects that allow you to put it to maximum use.
It's Mega Form (The Sturdy Earth Emperor) destroys 2 set cards and let's you draw a card if it was summoned by tributing an earth monster.
Landrobe can be special summoned by flipping 1 monster your opponent controls face-down.
This makes that monster a valid target for Granmarg and can also bypass destruction immunity effects.
When Landrobe is tributed, you can special summon another vassal from your graveyard.
Return of the Monarchs lets you search any Monarch or Mega Monarch or a monster with the same stats from your deck when you tribute summon.
While this card is active, you cannot special summon from your extra deck.
This card helps you to maintain your hand resources and adjust your strategy. You can search a Monarch with a favorable effect or the Mega Form of the Monarch you just summoned.
Fire:
Thesthalos discards a random card from your opponent's hand and inflicts damage equal to it's level*100 if it was a monster card.
It's Mega Form (The Explosive Flame Emperor) does the same, but with double the damage and adds 1000 extra damage if it was summoned by tributing a fire monster.
Berlines can be special summoned by discarding 1 card. When it is tributed, you can see your opponent's hand and banish 1 card from it until the end phase.
Berlines is less effective during your turn, but very effective if used during your opponent's turn.
He banishes a card from your opponents hand until the end of the turn, when tributed. (you can see your opponents hand and select the target card.)
(There is a card that allows you to tribute summon during your opponent's turn.)
The Monarchs Erupt can be used if you have a tribute summoned monster and no cards in your extra deck.
Then it negates all monster effects on the field except those of tribute summoned monsters.
It is destroyed if you don't have a tribute summoned monster, but only during your end phase. So even if your Monarch is destroyed you still have a chance to summon another one and keep this card on the field. The Vassal's effects activate in the hand and graveyard, so they are unaffected by this card as well.
Light:
Zaborg destroys a monster on the field, this effect is not optional, so it will destroy itself if there are no other monsters on the field.
It's Mega Form (The Roaring Thunder Emperor) does the same and if the destroyed monster was Light attribute, both players must send a number of cards from their extra deck to the graveyard equal to the level/rank of the destroyed monster. Also if it was summoned by tributing a Light monster, you get to choose wich of your opponent's cards get send to the grave.
Mithra can be special summoned by special summoning a token with equal stats to your opponent's field.
This nullifies the danger of Zaborg destroying itself.
If Mithra is tributed, you get an additional tribute summon this turn.
This allows you to summon another Monarch or upgrade Zaborg into Mega Zaborg.
Strike of the Monarchs has a high cost for a low effect.
You must sacrifice a Lv5 or higher normal summoned monster to activate it. Then you can negate the effect of 1 card on the field until the end of this turn and draw a card.
This is best used as an emergency revenge when your opponent would destroy or even banish 1 of your monarchs and you can't prevent it.
But this card's 2nd effect is much more useful: You can banish it from your graveyard to change the attribute of all monsters on the field to anything you desire. (until the end of this turn)
This allows you to get the best out of your Mega Monarchs even if the attributes of your monsters don't match.
Those were the 4 original Monarchs that appeared in the anime.
To complete the 6 Attributes, 2 more Monarchs were added Later:
Wind:
Raiza return's 1 card on the field to the top of the deck. This effect is not optional, but hitting itself is less likely to happen than Zaborg hitting itself.
It's Mega Form (The Raving Wind Emperor) returns 1 card on the field and 1 card from any graveyard to the top of the deck.
And if it was summoned by tributing a Wind monster, it also returns and additional card on the field to the hand.
Garum can be special summoned by returning 1 of your tributed summoned monsters to the hand.
This allows you to tribute summon your Monarch a second time and use it's effect again.
When garum is tributed, you can search another vassal from your deck.
The Monarchs Stormforth allows you to tribute 1 monster your opponent controls for a tribute summon.
Unlike Soul Exchange, this card does not target and does not disable your battle phase.
You cannot special summon from the extra deck when you use this card.
Dark:
Caius banishes a card from the field and inflicts 1000 damage if it was a Dark monster. This effect is not optional.
It's Mega Form (The Grudge Wicked Emperor) always inflicts 1000 damage and also banishes all copies of that card from all places if it was a Dark monster.
Also if it was summoned by tributing a Dark monster, you can banish 2 cards. The damage will stay at 1000, but if both targets are Dark, then all copies of both cards are banished.
Lucius can be special summoned by banishing a level 5 or higher monster from your graveyard.
If it is tributed, you can reveal at all your opponent's set cards.
Tenacity of the Monarchs can search any Monarch spell/trap card from your deck, by revealing 1 Monarch, Mega Monarch or a monster with the same stats from your hand.
Here are some more Monarch cards:
Escalation of the Monarchs allows you to tribute summon during your opponent's turn, even during the battle phase.
You can switch your Monarch to another one and use it's effect to destroy whatever your opponent just placed on the field or you can upgrade your Monarch into a Mega Monarch and cause even greater destruction. This card also makes an excellent combo with The Monarchs Stormforth.
March of the Monarchs protects your tribute summoned monsters from destruction by card effects and also makes them un-targetable by card effects.
You cannot special summon from the extra deck when you use this card.
By Order of the Emperor allows you to negate an effect monster's effect that activates when a monster (or itself) is normal summoned. Then the controlloer of that monster draws 1 card.
This can be used to negate your own effects (for example if there are no targets on the field) and draw a card instead, but it can also be used against Monarchs.
The odd ones:
2 more Monarchs were created for the Light and Dark attribute, but they never recieved a Mega Form, a Vassal or a spell/trap card.
Their effects are also very different from the other Monarchs.
Both activate their effectes whenever they are summoned, not just tribute summoned, but they cannot attack during the turn they are summoned.
Delg can banish up to 2 cards from your opponent's graveyard and then send an equal number of cards fron the top of their deck to the graveyard.
Kuraz can destroy up to 2 cards on the field, then the controller of those cards draw 1 card for each of their destroyed cards.
the mysterious one:
The First Monarchs shows a new Monarch that didn't exist as a card yet.
It is a Trap Monster with inversed Monarch stats and if you discard a card when you summon it, you can use it as 2 tributes for the summon of a monster with an attribute of your choice.
The Identity of this Monarch was now revealed in the Monarch Structure Deck:
It's Erebus the Underworld Emperor.
Erebus can send 2 Monarch spell/trap cards from your hand and/or deck to the graveyard to shuffle 1 card from your opponent's hand (random), field or graveyard into the deck.
This effect does not target, so it can hi anything that is not immune to monster effects.
When Erebus is in your graveyard, you can discard a Monarch spell/trap to return a Monarch, Mega Monarch or a monster with equal stats (or even Erebus itself) to your hand.
Eidos is Erebus' Vassal and let's you perform an additional Tribute summon during the turn you summon it.
When Eidos is in the graveyard, you can banish it to special summon another Vassal from your graveyard. You cannot special summon from the extra deck when you use this effect.
The Dominion of the Legendary Monarch prevents your opponent from special summoning from the extra deck, while your extra deck is empty, you have a tribute summoned monster and your opponent does not. Also your tribute summoned monsters gain 800atk when they attack another monster and you can make a Lv8 Mega Monarch in your hand Lv6, so that it can always be summoned with 1 tribute. This allows you to tribute summon the Mega Monarchs with just the Vassals.
So Erebus is the First Monarch, but not the original one:
This one lets you return 2 Monarch spell/trap cards from your graveyard to the deck to draw 1 card.
Also, if this card is in the graveyard, you can banish another Monarch spell/trap to special summon this card as a monster with inversed Monarch stats.
And the Original First Monarch is:
Aither the Heaven Emperor.
Aither can send 2 Monarch spell/trap cards form your hand and/or deck to the graveyard to special summon any Monarch, Mega Monarch or any other Monster with more than 2400atk and exactly 1000def from your deck, but returns it to the hand during the end phase.
When Aither is in your hand, you can tribute summon it during your opponent's main phase.
Aither is less powerful than Erebus, but it can search for Erebus and any other Monarch, also it's second effect can be combined with Escalation of the Monarchs to tribute summon twice during your opponent's turn. You can use Aither to grab a Monarch from your deck and then use Escalation to upgrade it into a Mega Monarch.
Idea is Aither's Vassal, when you summon it, you can special summon another Vassal from your deck. You cannot special summon from your extra deck when you use this effect.
When Idea is sent to the graveyard, you can add 1 of your banished Monarch spell/trap cards to your hand.
Pantheism of the Monarchs lets you send a Monarch spell/trap card from your hand to the graveyard to draw 2 cards.
When this card is in your graveyard, you can banish it to show your opponent 3 Monarch spell/trap cards from your deck. Then your opponent must choose 1 of them. The choosen one is added to your hand and the rest goes back to the deck. Note that this card does not specify to select different cards, so you can choose doubles or even triples of the same card.
That are all the Monarchs cards for now, but the Arc-V manga will feature more Monarchs and eventually they will become real cards.
